3:10 to Yuma is a western based in Bisbee, Arizona. The story sees rancher Dan Evans, played by Christian Bale, caught up in the big drought and short on money to pay off his debts. One day while he and his sons are collecting their cattle he comes across a stage coach robbery by Ben Wade's, played by Russel Crowe, gang. Their paths cross again when Ben is captured and Dan agrees to help escort Ben to the 3:10 to Yuma train for $200.
The character development in this movie is definitely what I take out of the movie as its high point. Through out the movie you see Ben and Dan's characters play off each other very well as you have a hard time reading Ben's reasons for how he treats Dan and the bond they begin to share. Both Bale and Crowe put in passable performances but I wouldn't write home about either of them but as a pair they had me drawn into the plot.
For a western the directors definitely swayed away from the constant gun fights and focused more on the story. So if you are looking for more of the "spaghetti" western shoot em up don't bother with this movie. If you on the other hand like a story being told with some action I would definitely put this movie on the rent like at NetFlix because I found it never lost my interest and at the end I did feel I felt for the characters through out the movie.
